2012 AFF SUZUKI CUP: 'Philippine Azkals vs Singapore' Live Streaming
The Philippine Azkals returned home on Saturday night with soaring confidence and pride after successfully clinching a spot in the AFF Suzuki Cup semifinals for the second straight time in Bangkok, Thailand.
The Azkals hope to ride on the momentum of their stirring wins over Vietnam and Myammar when they take on Singapore in the first-ever Suzuki Cup match in Manila on Saturday at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Singapore arranged a two-leg duel with the Azkals after orchestrating a 4-3 comeback win over Laos on the same night at the Sham Alam Stadium in Malaysia.
Shahril Ishak scored two goals as Singapore rallied from a 2-0 halftime deficit to defeat the Laotian side.
Though tied with Group B’s other semifinalist in defending champion Malaysia (which posted a 2-0 win over Indonesia in the other match) for first with six points each, Singapore topped the bracket due to a superior goal difference.
“Kung anu yung pinakita namin nitong last game (against Myanmar), nandito lang yung team na nakahanda sa semifinals siguro adjustments na lang gagawin,” said Chieffy Caligdong, whose 85th minute goal propelled the Azkals to a 1-0 win over Vietnam on Tuesday.
Caligdong actually preferred Singapore as its semifinals opponents when asked by scribes, citing lesser crowds compared to gigantic attendance numbers in Malaysia and Indonesia.
The Azkals also have good reasons to face the Lions, winning two friendly matches at their expense this year.
Goals by Caligdong and Phil Younghusband enabled the Azkals to defeat Singapore, 2-0, held last September at the Jurong West Stadium in the Lion City to secure the country’s first-ever win against the tiny but wealthy nation since 1972.
