Phil Younghusband leads Philippine Azkals’ 21-man lineup for AFF Suzuki Cup
The Philippine national men’s football team is leaning on a couple of veterans and several fresh faces for its ASEAN Football Federation Suzuki Cup campaign slated on Saturday in Vietnam.
Leading the 21-man lineup are brothers Phil and James Younghusband, team captain Rob Gier, Juani Guirado, Misagh Bahadoran, Chris Greatwich, Paul Mulders, Jerry Lucena and Patrick Reichelt.
Azkals coach Thomas Dooley also tapped Manny Ott, Daisuke Sato, Amani Aguinaldo, Martin Steuble, Simone Rota, Simon Greatwich, Curt Dizon, Patrick Deyto and Kenshiro Daniels.
Making their debut for the national team in an international tournament are Tomas Trigo and Dennis Villanueva.
The Azkals will open its Suzuki Cup campaign against Laos on Saturday before taking on Indonesia on Tuesday and host Vietnam on November 28.
The Suzuki Cup is the premier football competition for national teams in Southeast Asia. This year, the Azkals are looking to finally make it to the tournament final after reaching the semifinals for two straight times.
