With Terrence Romeo and Calvin Abueva leading the charge, Gilas Pilipinas was able to built a 19-point lead in the first half but saw it vanish when Chinese Taipei rallied back.

However, some steady clutch performances from Romeo and Jayson Castro sealed the win for the Filipinos who just played their fourth competitive game as a team.

The Philippines is facing an old rival in South Korea which uncharacteristically has yet to win any games in the tournament after two outings.

South Korea dropped a 77-46 game to Iran on Saturday while also yielding a narrow 86-84 result to Russia’s Spartak Primorye on Sunday.

The Koreans are still going to be led by their veterans such as Cho Sungmin, Moon Taeyoung and Kim Sunhyung who scored 24 points in their loss to the Russian club.
