PBA: Barangay Ginebra overhauls 22-point deficit, beats NLEX (FULL GAME REPLAY VIDEO)
The Barangay Ginebra Kings went to their second unit to overcome a huge deficit against the NLEX Road Warriors and hack out a gutsy 91-90 victory in the 2015 PBA Philippine Cup Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum.
The Gin Kings trailed by as much as 22 points in the third quarter, struggling to defend NLEX in transition and in the half court, but buoyed by a vocal weekend crowd at the Big Dome, they roared back in the final quarter to claim their sixth win of the conference.
The victory allowed the perennial crowd favorites to inch closer towards nabbing a twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals.
"Our guys just didn't give up on the game, especially our second group," said Ginebra coach Tim Cone at the end of the contest. "We had a lot of heroes out there tonight, and you have to have that to come back and win a game like that."
"I'm really proud of them. This is the first time I've seen that 'never say die' (spirit). It's not created from the coaches, it's not even created from the players; it's really created from the fans," he added.
